I hate New Year's resolutions and the one thing I can count on is that I will break them. Usually all of them since I don't normally make but 1 or 2. However with this being 2010, I figure it's a good year to think about 10 things I'd like to change or add. So here goes...
1 ~ Read my Bible and pray more. Every time I get real crabby for a significant amount of time, I can look back and see it's been a while since reading my Bible or praying.
2 ~ Get more done around the house on a daily basis. I have a tendency to let things go till the evening and by then I don't want to pick up the living room or switch the laundry. I mean really, who wants to do all that when they're tired?
3 ~ Do more art crafts with my kids. I'm constantly being asked if they can paint but I make excuse after excuse as to why "right now" is not a good time.
4 ~ Compliment Tim daily. He works hard at three jobs (2 paid, 1 volunteer) to support our family and our community. He deserves my thanks and appreciation, probably more than I give.
5 ~ Turn the TV off more. I don't watch much except the news and the kids watch a few cartoons, but even when everyone is off and busy, the TV stays on and adds unnecessary noise to an already VERY loud household.
6 ~ Plan out our meals in advance, better than I have been. Have you ever noticed it's impossible to plan dinner when it's 4:45? It doesn't work and I'm not really into eating a bunch of mac n' cheese {neither are my kids}!
7 ~ After the morning I've just had, one thing that needs to change is parenting intentionally. I can't just assume it's all going to work out on it's own as we go about our day. For one thing I like schedules {I use them more as guidelines than anything} and we've gotten away from ours. Time to go back to it.
8 ~ Exercise : I want to try getting in exercise 3-5 days a week. I'm trying to lose weight and things have been going well but I KNOW nothing is going to happen if I don't move. Yippy skippy. Can you feel my enthusiasm?
9 ~ Read more. I love reading but fill my time with so many other things that I don't get to read much anymore. Maybe before bed so it will make me sleepy.
10 ~ Try to have a positive attitude. By the time bedtime arrives I'm so tired I just want the kids to listen and get in bed which makes for a grumpy mommy in the evenings. I love how it used to be where we would sing, read stories, and have fun. My children need that back.
That's it. Those are the things I want to do or change. I wish they were more lighthearted but 2010 needs to be a year of change for me. I guess we'll see how it all goes. At least I have a whole year to work on these things. If I break them now, I can start them right up again, all the way up till 31st December 2010.

Wow I can relate to every single one of those things on your list. I have 4 small kids also and know exactly what you mean in all those cases!
ReplyDeleteI hope we can both improve these areas this year :)
